Hegge & Confusione Back in NJ Supreme Court

Hegge & Confusione is back in the New Jersey Supreme Court! Hegge & Confusione has persuaded the Supreme Court to hear a client’s case involving an important issue of family law. The appeal alleges that the trial court miscalculated the equitable distribution of a $2.2 million deferred compensation payment by basing the equitable distribution award solely on the parties’ fourteen months of marriage, rather than also considering the parties’ eight years of cohabitation that preceded the marriage.

The applicability of cohabitation periods in determining equitable asset distribution upon divorce is a hotly contested topic within the legal community and currently has no consensus. Attorney Michael Confusione will continue handling the client’s appeal before the Supreme Court.
